Sun Ra - Space is The Place

.....'Space is The Place' is not the movie soundtrack . This may have even preceded the movie.... Right the music ..! The title rack is a side long twenty one minute psych/funk mantra. Funkadelic were dreaming up the same vibe on Westbound. Flip over to side two where 'Images' and the reflective 'Discipline', are really good as is the space jazz screwball comedy 'Rocket Number Nine', Sea Of Sounds' jazz in free-form is not really my cup of tea. ..

MC5 - Purity Accuracy

The MC5 shouldn't need an introduction. Purity Accuracy is a good box set...........but............ This years 'Sign of the Three Eyed Men' ten cd box set saw the 13th Floor Elevators finally get the treatment their legend deserved...... With the exception of 'Rehearsals' (CD one) 'Purity Accuracy' isn't in the same league as the 'Elevators' box. In 2003 the remaining group members recorded 'Live at the 100 Club' as the DKT-MC5 (CD six ) with guest vocalists, Lemmy does a great 'Sister Anne' . The other four live discs feature the MC5 in their pomp, the sound quality at times is a bit ropey to say the least and undermines the power (for the listener) the group unquestionably had in a live setting. 'Kick out the Jams' proves what a great rock'n'roll band the Mc5 were . Still waiting for the true testimonial maybe next time.....
